Most of our 8th graders left two days ago for Washington DC, so there are only 5 kids left. I had them do this logic puzzle. Other printable ones can be found here.
I actually went to a workshop today and forgot to request a sub!! I had sub plans alright, just no one here to see them! My principal had to cover my 2nd period class. Luckily, most of the 8th graders were on the DC trip, and the rest went to the Reagan Library for a […]
I wrote a short post about using Desmos today to create our “Des-man” — really nice activity.
My 6th graders LOVED this game! We played 4 games, so each student got 2 double-sided sheets. Game 1: Operation: +Target Number: 100 (2-digit plus 2-digit) Game 2: Operation: – Target Number: 30 (2-digit minus 2-digit) Game 3: Operation: x Target Number: 80 (2-digit times 1-digit) Game 4: Operation: divTarget Number: 15 (2-digit divided by 1-digit)
My geometry kids did two constructions today: Given a point, construct the tangent to the circle at the given point. Given a point outside a circle, construct a tangent to the circle from the given point.
Algebra students used Desmos today to see how the coefficients a, b, and c affect the shape of the parabola.
I’m not doing much this year to celebrate Pi Day. We just discussed some facts about Pi, then did a circle drawing contest. I held up a paper cup and asked kids to draw, in one quick stroke, a circle the size of the mouth of the cup. They get two trials.
On this warm gorgeous day, the kids continued to work on Conway’s Rational Tangles. I LOVED this lesson!!! The kids did too, of course. 🙂
I introduced Conway’s Rational Tangles to all 3 classes today. I’m thinking of doing this activity with our Staff later this year.
