21 – foxy fives and patterns in SA and volume

I really like the Foxy Fives lesson with my algebra kids so I’ll write a fuller post on my blog. It’s a nice challenge for 8th graders to apply the order of operations to a set of numbers.

I was about to yell at Jonathon for doodling instead of working on the problem, but he said, “Mrs. Nguyen, take a look, I wrote you rock!” 🙂

My geometry kids just got started with this great patterns problem in surface area and volume. We’ll continue tomorrow. I made them choose two patterns: 1 from the top 3, and 1 from the bottom 2. (These patterns are now part visualpatterns.org.)
